This group from Timbuktu was formed in exile between the Mauritanian and Burkinabe refugee camps in 1995. All its members are from the Timbuktu region, specifically the Goundam cercle. The group has a single aim: to sing about exile, love, peace and the political condition of the Tuareg people. Tartit was created to safeguard traditional Tuareg music, which was slowly disappearing. It is composed by female voices through an organisation called Tartitn'Chetma (Union of Sisters).

Tartit's concerts are an invitation to travel to the desert. Inviting and almost hypnotic, this music inevitably leads you into the mystical world of the Kel Tamasheq (people who speak Tamasheq, the language of the Tuareg). The magic of the performance is heightened by the beauty of the traditional dress and authentic instruments: the tende (a drum made from mortar and covered with goat or sheep skin), the teher (a drum made from a mortar and covered with goat or sheep skin), the kel and the imzad (a violin made from a calabash covered in goatskin or sheepskin, with a string made from horses' hair). The songs are a mix of traditional and modern melodies.

Ce groupe originaire de Tombouctou a été créé en exil entre les camps de réfugiés mauritaniens et burkinabés en 1995. Tous ses membres sont de la région de Tombouctou, précisément le cercle de Goundam. Ce groupe n'a qu'un seul but : chanter l'exil, l'amour, la paix et la condition politique du peuple touareg. Tartit a été créé pour sauvegarder la musique traditionnelle touareg qui disparaissait lentement. Elle est composée par des voix féminines grâce à une organisation Tartitn'Chetma (union des sœurs).

Les concerts de Tartit sont  une invitation au voyage dans le désert. Invitant et presque hypnotique, cette musique vous conduit inévitablement dans l'univers mystique des Kel Tamasheq (peuple parlant le tamasheq, la langue des Touaregs). La magie de la représentation est renforcée par la beauté des robes traditionnelles et des instruments authentiques: le tende (tambour construit avec un mortier et recouvert d'une peau de chèvre ou de
de moutons), le teherdent (luth à trois cordes  dont la caisse de résonance est recouverte d'une peau de vache), et l'imzad (violon construit avec une calebasse recouverte de peau de chèvre ou de mouton, avec une corde faite avec le poil des chevaux). Les chants sont des mélodies traditionnelles et mélodies modernes :
