BIOGRAPHIE

Azel c’est l’histoire de trois jeunes amis qui commencent la musique au milieu d’une profusion de groupes de blues touareg nigériens. Ensemble ils rêvent de devenir une branche (Azel) de cette longue ligné de musiciens touarègues qui vivent de leur art en défendant une culture commune.

Composé du batteur  Ichaya Issoufou Dan Nan et des guitaristes Mouhamed Khamed Assalerh et Yusuf Ahmoudou Ahmouden (Bombino Junior), ils  commencent à développer leurs propres compositions et travaillent à la réalisation de leur premier album. Le groupe fait ses premiers pas en reprenant les titres du leader de la scène rock touareg Bombino qu’ils jouent à la perfection pendant les mariages et les fêtes à travers le pays;

Le style de Azel s’ancre dans un rock d’une modernité assumée, travaillée énergiquement et ouvert aux oreilles occidentales. Si cela dénature  un peu la musique de leurs aïeux, les chansons écrites  et chantées en tamasheq reprennent les thèmes sur les souffrances et les espoirs des habitants du sahel.

De leurs aveux, la vie c’est dur comme du rock, tellement difficile que rien n’a l’air d’avoir changé depuis les années 80 et les débuts de Tinariwen .  Azel veut se servir de la musique pour agir positivement et révéler l’exaltation et  la rage qui les habitent.Ne voulant plus subir les aléas politiques de leur pays et d’un Sahel à  l’avenir incertain, voyant les souffrances de leurs frères de l’Azawad, Azel a décidé de prendre son avenir en main et compte bien devenir l’un des groupes influents de la nouvelle scène rock touareg qui agite le monde.

BIOGRAPHY

Azel is the story of three young friends who start out playing music in the midst of a profusion of Tuareg blues bands from Niger. Together they dream of becoming a branch (Azel) of this long line of Tuareg musicians who make a living from their art while defending a common culture.

 

Composed of drummer Ichaya Issoufou Dan Nan and guitarists Mouhamed Khamed Assalerh and Yusuf Ahmoudou Ahmouden (Bombino Junior), they began to develop their own compositions and worked on their first album. The group took its first steps by covering songs by the leader of the Tuareg rock scene, Bombino, which they played to perfection at weddings and parties across the country;

Azel's style is rooted in modern rock, energetically crafted and open to Western ears. While this may distort the music of their ancestors, the songs written and sung in Tamasheq take up the themes of the suffering and hopes of the people of the Sahel.

 

They admit that life is as hard as rock, so hard that nothing seems to have changed since the 80s and the beginnings of Tinariwen.  No longer willing to put up with the political vagaries of their country and a Sahel with an uncertain future, and seeing the suffering of their brothers in Azawad, Azel have decided to take their future into their own hands, and are determined to become one of the most influential bands on the new Tuareg rock scene that is stirring the world.
