UNE VOIX, UN INSTRUMENT, UNE HARMONIE SACRÉE…

La musique, chez Senny Camara, c’est avant tout une histoire de cordes. Celles de sa kora – traditionnellement réservée aux hommes – dont elle a su faire une alliée pour s’accomplir en tant qu’artiste mais aussi en tant que femme.

La femme à qui elle doit le plus, c’est sans doute sa grand-mère, qui l’a élevée dans les plus pures traditions du peuple Sérère, à Tataguine, au sud du Sénégal. Grâce à elle, elle découvre aussi la culture mandingue de son père, ancien tirailleur sénégalais dont l’amour sans faille pour la France aura tant inspiré Senny.

Elle est aujourd’hui l’une des rares femmes au monde à jouer de la Kora. Sa musique, ses textes, sa voix livrent un combat subtil d’amour et d’unicité. Une harmonie sacrée reconnue et soutenue par les grands-frères et grands maîtres de la kora.

A VOICE, AN INSTRUMENT, A SACRED HARMONY...

For Senny Camara, music is above all a story of strings. Those of her kora – traditionally reserved for men – which she has made her ally in her fulfilment as an artist but also as a woman. 

​

The woman to whom she owes the most is undoubtedly her grandmother, who raised her in the purest traditions of the Serer people in Tataguine, southern Senegal. Thanks to her, she also discovered the Mandinka culture of her father, a former Senegalese soldier whose unwavering love for France inspired Senny so much.

​

Today, she is one of the few women in the world to play the kora. Her music, her lyrics and her voice convey a subtle struggle for love and uniqueness. A sacred harmony recognised and supported by the great brothers and masters of the kora.
